Competition is tough amongst menswear fashion heavyweights this spring/summer. Designers such as Paul Smith, Dries Van Noten and Alexander McQueen are all at the top of their game and have delivered us the highest quality mainline outfits in 2014. Challenging competition Indeed!
I’m pleased to say that iconic British brand Burberry have risen to this challenge to bring us some superb pieces with their classic and innovative collections. Since master dressmaker Thomas Burberry began knocking out top designer clothing way back in 1856, Burberry has become a British institution with luxury outerwear always at the core of its business (and believe me they have some great outerwear for SS14).
Burberry’s business has firmly established itself in Interbrand’s ‘Top 100 Global Brands’ for the 4th consecutive year and for me one of the key factors behind its success is that the brand consistently produces quality clothing that spans generations. Let’s be honest, you’re probably just as likely to see a 27 year old man wearing Burberry as a 70 year old; a true sign of the brands global appeal and popularity.
Today I’ve been reviewing one of the Burberry’s most creative and commercially successful collections of recent years, Prorsum. The Prorsum collection was launched in 1998 by then Creative Director, Roberto Menichetti and to this day works to the core values; to creative high quality, iconic, handcrafted menswear. This Spring/Summer 2014 Prorsum collection stands out as one of the best to date, so much so that it was featured in our recent article on the 7 Mens Colour Trends for SS14. So, after much deliberation and a few changes of heart, here’s my pick of the 10 must have items from this seasons collection.
1. Double Cashmere Blend Aran Sweater – Military Red
2. Textured Knit Artist Jacket – Bottle Green
3. Bonded Cotton Sou’wester – Bright Yellow
4. Raw Silk Caban – Indigo
5. Oversized Spotted Linen Shirt
6. Crepe Sole Suede Shoes – Bright Canvass Blue
7. Pleat Front Silk Shirt – Turquoise
8. Bonded Cotton Trench Coat – Indigo
9. Breton Stripe Cotton T-Shirt – Off White Military Red
10. Cashmere Raglan Sleeve Sweater – Pale Cerulean
