Venture in a world of amazing jackets, cool concepts and recycled army materials, for that is what Christopher Raeburn is all about. With an amazing attention to detail and always having a collaboration down his sleeve, the designer fascinates us with his love for recycling and great conceptual ideas. What’s even better is that he is a really nice person, in an industry filled with not so nice people (it’s a true ray of sunshine, no kidding).

Christopher Raeburn brand ethos
History
The brand Christipher Raeburn is a British brand that has a unique and innovative approach to creative amazing womenswear and menswear garments. A graduate of the prestigious Royal College of Art in London, Christopher became renowned for his re-appropriation of military fabrics in creating his outerwear, particularly the use of de-commisioned parachutes to create the statement pieces of clothing.
His brand’s ethos focuses on ‘RE-MADE’, which guides and influences every collection, as well as every aspect of the design process, each garment having a distinctive aesthetic, meticulous detail and a considerate functionality.
He is a pioneer of sustainable design by bringing it to the mainstream of the fashion industry and he presents a reinterpreted version of luxuri with a high sense of integrity. “His brand focuses on the four Rs: reduce, reuse, recycle and Raeburn.”
The designer in his workshop
This latest menswear collection is inpired by ‘survival’ and ‘endurance‘ and the materials used help just with that. The amazing and super colourful jackets you will see below are literally made from inflatable rafts and emergency vessel, keeping up with his ‘remade ethos’. He also tailored double rubbered materials for the parkas, with some of them still displaying black writing and markings found on them at the time of salvage.
The colours were also chosen wisely, with bright red, orange and blue punctuating the darker hues to reflect a stormy sea, where the materials he recycled would normally be put to use to save lives. He also uses the shark as the symbol of this collection, recreating it as a bag or digitally printing it on clothes.
Besides this, AW15 marks the first time Christopher Raeburn has ventured into footwear, colaborating with London-based brand Purified to create all the shoes for the collection.
The music was amazing and accompanied the whole idea of the collection perfectly, having sea waves when entering and then becoming ‘stormier’ as we launched into the collection. A true delight to be seen.
Check out some great photos from the collection below and note that we wouldn’t have been able to see it first hand in London, if it weren’t for the amazing team at Lavazza UK who made everything possible.
